Abilene Cooper High Poised To Return To 5A

Abilene Reporter- News article.

Short Hospital Stay In September

On September 2, I was admitted to Austin's Seton Hospital with what doctors descrdibed as a "mild stroke."I was released fom Seton on September 8, and was cleared to return to work on October 2. Have been doing fairly well since returning to work, but still limited use of my left hand and left arm. . Really appreciate all of the folks who came by the hospital to visit and all the help they provided while in the hospital and my recovery at home. Hopefully I'll be abe to keep the blog and web site updated with the latest information about District 2-5A and other Texas high school football .

Not A Good Opening Weekend For 2-5A Teams

Lubbock Coronado's 22-19 win over El Paso Franklin on Friday night ended up being the only win over a 5A oppononent in Week 0 for District 2-5A. District teams won only 3 of 10 games in the opening weekend of play. The five southern-most schools failed to win a Week 0 game, while being outscored by 201-79.

The most surprising loss of the weekend had to be Odessa High's 20-13, setback at the hands of El Paso Montwood. Permian is now 0 for 2 at San Antonio's Alamo Dome, following their 33-14 loss to Duncanville on Saturday, spoiling Head Coach Gary Gaines' return.

Amarillo's 56-0 pounding of 4A Canyon Randall, on the road, should be enough to serve notice to the other district teams that the Sandies are for real. Amarillo gets to prove its margin of victory was no fluke this Friday when they travel to Lubbock Coronado to open district play.

Will Permian v Duncanville Be On justin.tv?

Since the Permian-Duncanville game will be shown live on television (according to a post by odessapermian.com on the mywesttexasfootall message board), I'm wondering if (as well as hoping) someone will show it on justin.tv? For those not familiar with justin.tv, it's where folks can share what they're watching on their tv and/or computer via the internet. It's a pretty cool site.

ODD: The Dallas Morning News, in an article titled;

A fans' guide to the season's top high school football games,

did not list the Permian-Duncanville game. Duncanville is ranked 13th in the News' 5A Area Preseason Poll, while Permian is ranked in the State 5A top 10 by AP. This will mark the third meeting between the two teams. Duncanville won the first meeting in the 1998 5A Playoffs, while Permian won last year's meeting at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
